Gaming Event Guide 2017

Here you’ll find descriptions and times for all of the gaming events, panels, and seminars that’ll be happening at CMON Expo 2017.

GAMING EVENTS

A Dance with Dragons
Compete with your friends in a fun-filled mini campaign featuring the new Arcadia Quest Dragons! Culminating in a showdown with the Frost Dragon, winners will go home with fun Dragon Themed Prizes.

The Guildmaster’s Tournament
Compete with up to 11 other players to vie for the Guildmaster’s Cup, as you lead your guild through three unique competitive scenarios. Prizes to the guilds that reign supreme.

Tournament For Ragnarok
Players will play in a swiss-style tournament using the Blood Rage Tournament Rules. Lasting two to three rounds, the Blood Rage Tournament for Ragnarok will use both total points and victory points to determine who reigns supreme and will live forever in valhalla. Prizes to the most worth of Odin’s children.

March To Immortals (Final Immortals Qualifier)
Our first competitive event will be a 500-point tournament, with a 150-point sidebar, using the 2016 MTI document, found HERE. Players will engage in combat for three rounds at 75 minutes per round. There will be Bludgelt available for the winners, so you can think of this as perhaps your last chance to “qualify” for the Immortals.

Secktess: Sub-surface Shadows
The Trueborn Dragyri have long used the tunnels beneath the surface of Samaria to get around, and sometimes this has led to conflicts regarding right of way. With tensions high between the castes, this particular crossroads is set to be a place of violent struggle.

Fury Road
Premiered at the CMON Expo last year, this feature game sees Salt Flat Nomads and their vicious beasts assaulting a convoy led by St Isaac and his robotic minions.

Immortals
This is what it’s all about! The final clash of the March To Immortality season, where one mighty commander will wrench victory from their fellow commanders, and be forever immortalized in Dark Age lore. This is a 750-point tournament, 150-point sidebar, using the MTI 2016 system, found HERE. Painted models are a requirement of entry into this event. This tournament will be three rounds at 75 minutes per round.

After three rounds, the players with the two highest scores will go on to the Immortals Challenge round, 90 minutes. This final battle will be fought on the Secktess: Sub-surface feature table.

You must have a Bludgelt to enter! We will be checking these at registration!

Pits of Chains Barrow
This is a fast-paced game of gladiatorial combat, where your pit-fighting champion must face all-comers in order to come out on top.

Scramble
This will be a 300 point tournament, no more than 100 points spent on a single model, but otherwise using the MTI system found HERE. There will be three rounds at 40 minutes per round.

Rule the Realm Tournament
Gather your centaurs and your merfolk and become the supreme commander of Ethnos! Players will battle through swiss rounds of Ethnos to see who can accumulate the highest combined score!

Riders of the Apocalypse
Players must band together to defeat the Apocalyptic terrors in this abbreviated campaign featuring the The Others: 7 Sins Apocalypse Scenario. Teams that complete their missions will be handsomely rewarded!

The Professor’s Challenge Tournament
New and Experienced players will compete in three rounds of Potion Explosion to see who can accumulate the most victory points and be crowned the Potion Master Supreme of the Professor’s Challenge. Players will play at least three timed games of Potion Explosion with the best potion master taking home fabulous prizes!

The Big Boat Battle
Play in a Rum & Bones 2nd Tide multiplayer extravaganza, where no enemy is off limits and where chaos abounds. Players will pick one of four unique factions and see who truly rules the high seas.

This Wrath of Kings feature game pits the forces of House Goritsi against those of House Nasier in a bold fight where each of the six players will be trying to achieve a Motivation particular to them.

Nationals
This is the first US Nationals event for Wrath of Kings, a Skirmish-Level tournament, using the Conquest of Kings system, found on Wrath of Kings the website under Downloads. This tournament will be three rounds at 90 minutes per round. The final battle will be fought over the Battle of Ravenswood feature table.

Skirmish-Level Tournament

Evil Troy’s Army Assault
The Necromancer Evil Troy has been to the underworld, and now he’s back to get his revenge. Armed with his usual array of the walking dead, this time Evil Troy has even more tricks up his sleeve. Can your rag-tag group of surviors hold him off and prevent the end of the world? Find out in this 2017 convention exclusive scenario. Successful groups will, of course, be handsomely rewarded.

Join us as CMON’s Director of Game Design, Eric Lang, and Senior Producer Thiago Aranha take a look at a few of our upcoming titles. They’ll takie you behind the scenes, from forming the first ideas for a game to when the cardboard and plastic hit the table.

Dark Age & Wrath of Kings: What Is and What Will Be
This seminar will take a look back at the last 12 months of Dark Age and Wrath of Kings, the releases, and the community growth. Then we’ll look ahead to the next 6 months and where the future can take them. The presenters will be Bryan Steele and Michael Shinall.

HOBBY EVENTS

Road to Crystal Brush Painting Competition
Our Expo’s painting competition is a Road to Crystal Brush contest. Bring out your best work for the public, and our panel of judges, to see. The top overall winner will receive their choice of $100 in CMON gift credit, or round-trip airfare to compete at the Crystal Brush Awards 2017, during AdeptiCon, in Chicago!

Painting Fundamentals
It’s one thing to admire award-winning models, but the experience of painting your first models, squad, or game set can be as rewarding as winning a Crystal Brush. In this class you’ll learn the basics of model painting, from care and cleaning of your brushes to the techniques (like effective basecoating, drybrushing and washing) and practical advice (about color selection) that will give you results you can be proud of. Miniatures, brushes, and a selection of paints will be provided.

Skin Tones
Learn how to start adding color to the usual peachy visage, shadowing with blue, purple, and green for eyecatching effects. Paints and other materials are supplied, as well as a practice mini. You might want to bring a good quality brush or two.

Weathering
Rust, dirt, verdigris, and battle damage! You’ll learn how to weather using some basic powders, making your own oil washes, and scratching up shiny armor. Paints and other materials are supplied, as well as a practice mini. You might want to bring a good quality brush or two.

Rhonda Bender

Blending Via Textures
Learn how to use fine lines and stippled dots to create the appearance of textures like woven and woolen cloth or fine fur, while simultaneously building up highlights and shadows. You will receive a detailed reference hand-out so you can focus on observation and practice during the session. Please bring a size 00 or 000 Kolinsky sable brush, suitable for painting fine details. A limited number will be available for use in class if you aren’t able to bring one. Paints and a practice mini will be provided.

Competitive Painting
Join long-time judge (and many-times competitor!) Jen Haley for a discussion of what makes a miniature a winner. We’ll talk about basic types of miniature contests and model exhibitions, different judging systems and criteria, and where to go ‘next’ with your work to level up. Participants are encouraged to bring completed minis or works in progress for feedback and demonstration use.

Chibi Madness
Learn how to paint those super cute and slightly strange miniatures called chibis – best known from games like Super Dungeon Explore and Arcadia Quest. The class will cover things like hair, color choice, and those big eyes! Good for beginners as well as advanced painters who would like to learn more about useful techniques for chibis. Miniatures and paints will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own brushes.

NMM Master Class
Join Elizabeth Beckley as she demonstrates the technique of Non Metallic Metal, or painting realistic metal surfaces without the use of metallic paint. Participants will discuss and practice painting the most common colors, silver and gold. This class is best suited for intermediate painters–you have some experience and understanding of painting miniatures but would like to learn a new technique. This is a hands on class and miniatures and paint are provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own brushes.
